Sandy is located at the base of the Wasatch Mountains thirteen miles south of Salt Lake City. Sandy is home to a continuing education campus for non-traditional students at the University of Utah, opened in 2015.
Monica Zoltanski becomes Sandy mayor-elect after city finally certifies 21-vote election margin. She will become the city’s first female mayor in its 128 year history. Sandy City Council members voted 7-0 Monday, November 22, 2021, to certify the city’s mayoral election after recounts kept the race in limbo for several weeks.
Sandy is home to Real Salt Lake, a Major League Soccer team established in 2004 that plays at the Rio Tinto Stadium on the city’s west side.
